Add Some Pink Stripes To Your Cake Cane
Roll out some orange and pink fondant. Using a sharp paring knife and a ruler, cut different thick stripes out of the pink fondant and two different sized, thinner strips, out of the orange.
Apply the stripes by brushing clear food grade alcohol along the back with a paint brush.
Please note that we’re going to try to use these stripes to cover the seams, even though the royal icing has already helped us do this. Start by laying a thick pink strip near the bottom, over the seam, as your starting point. Do the same once more with the next two seems and your pink fondant. Next, you’re going to take another pink stripe and lay it in the very middle of the other two pink strips, so that there isn’t as much white space.
Note: Because candy canes are supposed to be twisted, you’ll find that when you’re trying to lay stripes around it, those strips will become warped. So when you’re approaching the curve, my suggestion is that you leave a lot of the curve untouched, and go for the straighter end with another thick pink stripe.
