Root Beer Chocolate Cake Stacked With Movie Theatre Faves!

Buttercream, Candy, Chocolate, Collection--novelty-cake-recipes, Fun, Mega cakes, Movies, Recipes-export, Simple syrup

Preheat Oven

Preheat oven to 350F.

Boil Root Beer and Butter

Place 2 cups of root beer and butter in a large saucepan, and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Remove from the stove and add cocoa powder and whisk until mixture is smooth. Cool slightly, about 10 minutes.

Whisk Dry and Wet Ingredients (Separately)

Whisk flour, 4 cups sugar, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. In the bowl of your electric mixer, beat eggs and sour cream to blend. Add root beer chocolate mixture to egg mixture and beat just to combine. Add your dry ingredients and beat briefly on low speed.

Bake Cakes

Bake cakes until tester inserted into center of cakes comes out clean, about 55 minutes. Cool cakes completely in their pans. Set aside.

Prepare Simple Syrup

Create your root beer simple syrup. Boil 1 cup of sugar with one cup of water, making sure that sugar is dissolved completely. When cool, stir in cup of root beer.

Crush Candy

Place 1 cup at a time of M&Ms into a Ziploc bag. Seal the bag, and use your rolling pin to lightly crush the candy.

Fill and Layer Cakes

Soak the first layer of cake with some root beer simple syrup. Place the layer of cake onto your platter. Pipe a shell border in concentric circles to completely cover the cake layer. Top with half of your crushed M&Ms. Repeat this process for each cake layer.

Pipe Cake Border

Spread a layer of buttercream almost to the edge of your top cake layer. Pipe one ring of a shell border around the edge of the cake. This border will act as a little fence.

Add Candy

Pile your cake with as much candy as you possible can!
