    Frankfurter Sausage Cake

Caking A German Sausage Cake For Oktoberfest!

This cake was originally made to celebrate Oktoberfest, a traditional festival held in mid-late September every year, ending on the first weekend of October. Though it originated in Munich, Germany, it is now celebrated all over the world in various communities. In my opinion, every big celebration needs a cake. Especially when it gives me the perfect excuse to make one of my favourite foods on How To Cake It!

    Prepare Cake Batter

Prepare your 6lb portion of Yos Ultimate Vanilla Cake batter. Pour 4 lbs of batter into your 10 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1hr and 15 minutes or until a cake tester comes out completely clean. Let cool completely in pan.

    Dye Batter

Dye the remaining 1 lbs of batter using Wilton Orange and Burgundy Icing Colours to resemble the colour of a hot dog. Pour batter into a 6 square pan, and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out completely clean. Let cool completely in pan.

    Prepare Buttercream

Prepare your Italian Meringue Buttercream. Set aside.

    Carve Cakes

Remove your cakes from their pans. Cut the 10 cake in half. Draw a template in the shape of a hot dog bun, and lay on one half of the cake. Use your serrated knife and cut along the template. Take the template and flip it over, so the shape is facing in the opposite direction and lay on the other half of the cake. Repeat carving process.

Crumb Coat and Chill Bun Cakes

Round out the bun by cutting off the top edge all the way around the bun shape. Crumb coat then, and set aside.

    Level Dyed Cakes

Level your dyed vanilla cake and cut it into nine equal squares, cut the cake into three equal parts in both directions. Squares will be about 2.

    Cut Cake Circles

Use your 1 circle cutter to cut circles from all nine squares. Set aside.

    Dye Buttercream

Dye a cup of your buttercream to match the cake colour. Use this buttercream to sandwich your cake circles together. Crumb coat and set aside.

    Colour Fondant

Colour 1 lbs of white fondant using Wilton Ivory for the bun, and lb of white fondant using Wilton Orange and Burgundy for the sausage.

    Cover Cakes in Fondant

Cover both your bun cakes and sausage cake with the fondant. Paint them both with a mix of Wilton Ivory and clear alcohol. Dont forget to indent and paint on a few grill marks too.

    Prepare Sauerkraut

Dilute a bit of Cake Craft Avocado and Wilton Buttercup Yellow in some clear alcohol. Play with the colour until you feel it matches the colour of sauerkraut. This can be tested by dipping a shard of coconut into the mixture. Mix in the clear piping gel and glycerin. Toss into coconut shards.

    Prepare Onion

Dilute a bit of Wilton Leaf Green icing colour in clear alcohol and paint onto the lines of your strip cutter. Run the strip cutter along the edge of your dried coconut slices to achieve the look of an onion.

    Prepare Mustard Buttercream

Use Wilton Buttercup Yellow to colour cup of buttercream to match mustard yellow. Throw in the yellow, orange, and red sprinkles to make it look grainy.

    Congratulations!
