Prepare Cake

Prepare the 6lb portion of Yos Ultimate Chocolate Cake, and bake at 350 for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely in pan.

Trim Cake

Trim the cake into three 4" x 6" rectangles.

Layer Cakes

Layer the cake with Italian meringue buttercream using an offset palette knife and crumb coat it. Let chill.

Roll Fondant and Cover Cake

Roll fondant into sheets that are 1/8" thick. Using enough fondant to cover 4 sides, the top of the cake, and an extra piece that will be used for the sides of the lid. Set them in the fridge.

Ice Cake and Chill

Give your cake another ice, and return to fridge.

Cut Fondant

Measure the height of your cake. Cut two sections of fondant that are the height of your cake, and the length of your cake for the two shorter sides of the box.

Apply Fondant

Apply these to your cake, and use a fondant smoother to help secure them. Cut away any excess by running a paring knife along the sides. Repeat this process for the other sides of the gift box.

Apply More Fondant

Measure the width and length of the top of your cake. Pick up your fondant carefully, and line it up with two adjacent sides of the box. Use your knife to trim the other two sides.

Prepare Box Lid

For the sides of the lid, use the final piece of pre rolled fondant. Cut 4 bands of fondant, about 1 1/4" thick. Make sure your bands are slightly longer than the longest side of the gift box.

Flip Cake

Place a cake board on top of your cake, and flip the cake. Apply some water to the lower edge of your cake, on all four sides. Add a band of fondant to all sides and trim.

Emboss Fondant

Roll out your orange fondant until it is 1/16" thick. Use an embosser, and press the pattern into the fondant in rows. You will need 4 bands, one for each side.

Apply Band

Cut out each embossed band, and flip them over. Brush the backs with a little water and apply to the sides of the lid. Trim accordingly. Flip your cake back over.

Cut and Apply More Fondant

Roll out remaining orange fondant as thin as you can. Cut four 1/4" thick strips that will fit the longest sides of your cake. Brush a line of water onto the top edge of your cake. Lay the four fondant strips along each edge. Trim the overlapping ends.

Emboss Cake Corners

To make extra embellishments for each corner, take an embosser and score the middle of each piece to ensure the fondant wont crack.

Add a Bow!

Take your dried fondant bow and add it to the top of you cake box! You can use piping jelly, sugar glue, glucose, or even icing to hold the bow onto the cake.
