I've seen tie dye everywhere this year - sweatshirts, sweatpants, face masks, PopSockets ;), you name it! But something was missing... a tie dye CAKE!
I transformed my classic vanilla cake recipe using vibrant yellow, pink, teal, violet, and green to make a gorgeous marbled tie dye pattern! Best part is that it is super easy to achieve and is the perfect way to add an extra colorful surprise to any birthday cake.

Preheat the oven to 350F. Line the bottom of each cake pan with parchment paper.
Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into a medium bowl and whisk together. Set aside.
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 8 minutes.
Add the eggs, two at a time, beating until each addition is incorporated before adding the next. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula when necessary.
Add the flour mixture in four parts, alternating with the milk in three parts, beating just until each addition is incorporated before adding the next; do not overmix.
Divide your batter into 5 bowls then color each part yellow, pink, teal, violet, and green. Dollop portions of each color into your pan then drag a knife through the batter vertically and horizontally - be sure not to overmix, until you are satisfied with the look.
Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and spread it so that it is smooth in the pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 35 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through.
