Cool, sophisticated and…challenging to nail. A lot of times it can end up looking drab, kind of grayish or blue. OR in your attempt to get that deep, rich night sky black, you add so much food coloring that it destroys the texture or flavor of your frosting.
But we have a game changing tip so simple that it seems too good to be true. But it’s not, we swear! Tempering your buttercream…in the microwave. Annnd it works to deepen and develop all kinds of colors, so you can keep this technique in your arsenal anytime you’re looking to add depth and darkness to buttercream.
Add a couple drops of food coloring into your microwave safe bowl full of white buttercream and stir well to combine. If you’re using black food coloring - it should look like a concrete gray.
Microwave the bowl for 6-8 seconds. Take out and stir- it should already be 2-3 shades deeper.
Keep microwaving and stirring in short spurts until your color is super dark and developed. If you’re using black food coloring, you should be able to get it to a deep, rich black.
Once your base is super deeply colored, you can add it to the rest of your buttercream and stir to combine!
That’s it. We told you it was easy. Happy coloring!
