Yee-haw! Texas has given us some amazing food, culture, and most importantly - Beyonce! But for this Texas Cake, I knew I wanted to go big. Everything’s bigger in Texas! I’m caking a stars and stripes cowboy hat!
Me and my simple syrup bottle (known as Sir Squeeze-A-Lot) have been through a lot together. I picked him up at a trade show years and years ago, and he’s been my faithful caking companion ever since. His speciality? Perfectly distributing simple syrup onto my cakes, allowing them to stay fresh and moist throughout my long decorating days. But after all those years of it just being him and I alone in the kitchen, I never imagined that he’s become such a celebrity when we launched How To Cake It! So now we’ve come full circle, he’s one of my most requested cakes. So here we go, let’s cake it!
Rice Krispie Treats are the ultimate ooey gooey treat. This recipe is simple enough that you can whip them up quickly on a rainy day, or when it's super hot out and you want a sweet treat without turning on the oven.
Sprinkles are the solution to everything. Bad day? Sprinkles! Missed the bus? Sprinkles! Boring cake batter? Sprinkles! Sprinkles add the perfect pop of colour to just about anything. Don’t believe me? Try to be grouchy while eating this Funfetti Mega Cake. I dare you. I swear, it’s impossible!
This is a touchdown of a cake. I’m making this chocolate cake football to celebrate the NFL kickoff, but this cake will be a hit all season long. Make it for your football team, your coach, or to munch on while you watch your favourite team hit the field!
We’re off to see the wizard - the wonderful Wizard of Cake! The Wizard of Oz is one of those old, classic movies that I feel I can return to over and over again. It’s so bright and cheery (with the exception of a certain witch), that it’s a caker’s dream. I mean, Munchkinland even has a Lollipop Guild! I have respect for any place that has candy based organizations. I’m honouring this classic film by caking Auntie Em’s Kansas home, filled with bright vanilla cake. Be careful when you’re placing your cake onto its board - you might accidentally squish a witch!
When I think awards show, I always picture the steps the artists take up to the stage to accept their award. They’re so excited! I took that concept to the next level with steps honouring all of the Best Song noms from this year, and finishing it with the teeniest mic drop ever.
I want to be the very best, like no one ever was...So when the Pokémon GO craze hit, I knew it was time to take on the challenge of a Pokémon Cake. You’ve seen me conquer my sphere fear with my Ornament Cakes, Kettlebell Cake, and my BB-8 Cake, but the unique pattern of the Poké Ball called for a completely new fondant process. Let’s do this!
I want to cake a crisp, clean Lunch Box Cake! The kind of pretty lunchbox that you would start a new school year with, not the smooshed, dirty one that always seems to surface at the end of the semester. I’ll be building this Lunch Box Cake out of carved funfetti cake, brightly coloured buttercream, and fondant details. I really want you to get creative with your lunch box design, it’s all about showing off your personality!
Hellooo gorgeous. I love playing with my buttercream. The full fat butter is the perfect vehicle for carrying flavour, and really deepening the taste of your cakes. This cookie butter buttercream is one of my all time faves. The texture of cookie butter is very similar to peanut butter, so you need to whip it right into your buttercream to get a smooth finish.
