Developing your skills as a cookie decorator can take time and patience, but it’s extremely rewarding, not to mention tasty. But there are a few ways to make it easier on yourself and avoid major frustrations. So whether you’re just starting out on your cookie decorating journey or you’ve been dabbling for a while and are ready to invest in a few tools, these three are the absolute top priorities I would recommend to make your life easier and your cookies even better.

  • This invaluable tool is one of those super genius products that seems like it should have been invented decades ago. This spinning turntable keeps your cookies at the perfect angle for decorating so you’re always comfy and can decorate with ease. 

  • Bags specifically designed for use without a tip have a thinner plastic, and single seam to help you get the finest lines possible and keep things easy on your hands. Generic piping bags are usually made with cake decorating and frosting in mind, so these tipless bags are a much better option for working with royal icing.

  • One of the most universal tools, it can help you push icing around, perfect your designs, and easily remove (dried) mistakes.  A toothpick can also be used in a pinch, but if you’re doing a lot of cookie decorating it’s probably worth investing in one of these.
