The 7 Must-Try Fall Recipes We've Already Fallen For

Feast Your Eyes on These 7 Must-Try Fall Baking Recipes

You busted out all the pumpkin decor you own. You put on your plaid and riding boots (even though you've never sat on a horse in your life). And you're ready to get the season started with some fall flavors. We've got you!

We've rounded up our 7 favorite fall baking recipes to remind you what fall is all about. Fall is about so much more than just pumpkin spice (but don't worry, there will be pumpkin spice!). Fall is about pecans, cinnamon, sweet potatoes, and most importantly, cake. We've even included some festive fall pie and cookie recipes because — although we're generally team cake — fall is a season for all desserts.

So, grab your whisk and piping bag. It's time to fall in love with some autumn eats.

The 7 Must-Try Fall Recipes We've Already Fallen For
    • Instructions

From finger-licking frostings to show-stopping cakes and classic pies, we can't get enough of these recipes. Try them in your own kitchen, then tag @howtocakeit to share your results.

    Brown Sugar Buttercream

This is the icing to top all your fall desserts (or to eat straight from the bowl with a spoon — we're not here to judge). This Brown Sugar Buttercream Recipe has the creaminess of a Swiss meringue buttercream with the complex sweetness of brown sugar.

Pair it with the Giant Sweet Potato Casserole Cake, use it to add an extra dash of autumn to any of the recipes below, or pipe it on your favorite vanilla cupcakes to upgrade a classic.

    Fall Harvest Cake

If you want a dish that celebrates the fruits (and veggies!) of the season, check out this Fall Harvest Cake. It starts with Yo's Ultimate Carrot Cake, topped with a cinnamon-infused Italian meringue buttercream, topped again with buttery sauteed apples and plums, and then topped again with maple caramel. So for anyone who's lost count, this cake is triple topped — meaning it's automatically three times better than any other cake.

    Pumpkin Spice Cake

Here it is, the moment you've been waiting for, the signature of the season, the fall flavor to end all fall flavors: pumpkin spice. Yo's Pumpkin Spice Cake Recipe is easy to make, but we'd never call it basic.

To get its complex flavor, this cake has the brown sugar, molasses, and spices blended right into the butter. Butter is a team player that carries the sugar-and-spice goodness throughout the whole cake so you get a true pumpkin spice cake, not just a pumpkin cake.

If you're feeling ambitious, you can follow Yo's lead and carve this cake into a pumpkin shape. Or you can go for a mini version by trying Nick's Pumpkin Spice Latte Cupcakes — because the only thing better than a latte is a cupcake.

    Sweet Potato Cake

For all you fall-flavor doubters who are like, "Meh, I'm not that into pumpkin spice," get ready to meet your match. Sweet potato offers a similar sweetness to pumpkin, but with a more robust, less nutty flavor. So, if you're not a pumpkin person, you can say goodbye to gourds and get in touch with fall's other orange vegetable.

Yo's Sweet Potato Cake Recipe includes a pureed whole orange that adds a hint of acidity to lift the sweet flavors. Round it out with classic fall spices — cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg — then indulge in the delicious. If you're feeling ambitious, you can turn this into a towering Sweet Potato Marshmallow Cake, or keep it simple by topping it with brown sugar buttercream and popping it in your mouth.

    Pecan Pie

That's right, we're featuring a pie on How To Cake It. And this is not just any pie. Yo's Pecan Pie Recipe is a classic that features a pie crust as crisp as the autumn air.

Of course, you can eat this pie as a pie, or you can blow everyone's mind by stacking the pie between layers of cake like in this Pecan Pie Mega Cake Recipe. Yeah, we took pecan pie, and we caked it — I think everyone saw that coming.

    Candle Cakes

Tealights aren't just for jack-o-lanterns. Light up the season with these autumnal Candle Cakes. Stick the cakes at the center of your table until it's time for dessert. Then, watch your guests fall over backwards when you take a giant knife and cut into your most adorable fall decor.

Our favorite thing about this cake is that it's actually three cakes — one chocolate, one vanilla spice, and one pumpkin spice. So, at the end of the night, everyone can have three slices of cake (or just pick their favorite flavor if they want to be "adults.")

    Fall Decorated Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies may be a timeless treat, but with the right decorations, you can turn them into a fall masterpiece. And thanks to our Fall Cookies Activity Bundle, creating your seasonal sugar cookies will be so easy to do.

The bundle includes six seasonal cookie cutters: a ghost, a bat, and a pumpkin for Halloween, plus a leaf, a turkey, and an apple for fall. There's also a digital activity book that will walk you through the decorations. By the time you're done, your friends will think you're a professional cookie decorator.

Create a sweet slate for your decorations with Yo's Sugar Cookie Dough, or go for a brown background with Yo's Chocolate Sugar Cookie Dough, which will look oh-so seasonal with the orange frosting on your leaves, turkey, or pumpkin.
