I love a traditional color palette, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Bright, bold colors and glitter and gold are my signature details. Spring is around the corner, and that means fresh, fun, bright, and bold to go with the season. Here are my favorite products and tips to create insta-worthy desserts and turn a basic treat into anything but basic.

  • With the sun setting earlier these days, we need as much brightness as we can get! While many people love to use deep and dark colors for the winter season, there is no rule against using bright colors year round! For winter baking, I love to incorporate richer hues like burgundy and navy into my baking, but you’ll still catch me using bright pink, coral, and mint green all the time. I always get asked how I color my desserts and achieve deep colors with no separation. The key is to make sure you’re using the right food coloring for the type of dessert you’re trying to color. Gel colors like the How To Color It set work amazing in macarons, ganache, royal icing, buttercream, and dough and batter. I love certain powdered colors for chocolate, but also use it in my macarons and buttercream - it’s so versatile! You can also find specific products to color candy and chocolate, so be sure to do your research and use as directed for the best results!

  • Nothing shouts glam for me more than edible glitter and gold leaf. If you’ve been on my instagram, you know that no dessert is complete without it! With the addition of gold and glitter you can seriously upgrade any dessert to go from an everyday snack to a gorgeous, giftable treat. Valentine’s Day? Add some gold leaf to your macarons and watch your soulmate swoon. Birthday Dessert Tray? Spritz some edible glitter on your petit four and homemade cannolis to level up your dessert game.

  • Dress up any bake, even a store bought cake if you’re in a pinch, with some simple piping. Open star piping tips like tip #32 or #21 are amazing for adding texture and style to your treats. I love a round tip like #11 or #808 to create perfect swirls on a cupcake. The How To Pipe It Kit is one of my go-tos because it contains all my favorites and is easy to access and store away!
